CELEBRATING AND PROMOTING THE EGG: THE INCREDIBLE, EDIBLE EGG
Belize Poultry Assication, San Ignacio, 10th October, 2012
Friday, 12 October 2012 is World Egg Day and The Belize Poultry Association (BPA) will be celebrating and promoting eggs this Friday in Corozal Town. All the schoolchildren and teachers of St. Paul Primary School in Corozal Town will be hosted to a free hearty egg breakfast. The breakfast includes eggs in johnny cakes, bananas and whole milk.
Every year, on the second Friday of October, the International Egg Commission (IEC) invites the world to organise and conduct activities in which the egg is the main actor as a way to highlight the nutritive properties of this complete food.
The egg is not what we think it to be. It does not cause cardiovascular diseases. And the cholesterol in the egg is necessary for our body to function properly, for example, produce hormones. 85% of the cholesterol that circulates in our blood is produced by the liver from saturated animal fats and 15% comes directly from the cholesterol we consume. So the cholesterol in eggs does not significantly increase levels in our blood. It is more important to limit our consumption of saturated fats and physical inactivity.
Eating an egg a day is healthy and does not cause any heart problem even in those with heart disease.
