Public-Private Partnership on the rise in Belize

The Progressive Sugar Cane Producers Association (PSCPA) held a workshop on “Train the Trainers” focusing on poultry health on Wednesday, 23 July 2025 at the Association’s conference room. Speakers were invited from the public sector (MAFSE and BAHA) as well as from the private sector (BPA). Besides the theoretical part there was a practical component with hands-on training on vaccinating poultry using the eye-drop method. The theoretical part informed on the BPA and its partners and addressed backyard poultry production, biosecurity and vaccination as well as important poultry diseases and the surveillance carried out for early detection and response in case of introductions at country and farm level. BAHA provided an update on the New World Screwworm. All participants were issued a certificate of participation and a thermos bag for cold-chain maintenance of vaccines.

The workshop was organized through Dr. Joe Myers, poultry consultant for BPA based in Orange Walk Town. Further information can be obtained from Dr. Myers 614 6891 and from Kevin Nah 674 1568 PSCPA.
